This past weekend we ventured out to the Northeast to try Columbia’s newest tapas restaurant, Ratio. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the modern, chic atmosphere and cocktail options. I opted for a mezcal cocktail, “From Lima with Love”, that was very refreshing with a perfectly smoky bite. If you don’t see something that catches your eye, just ask for the “Dealers Choice” from head Mixologist, Grant McCloskey.

The tapas menu features dishes with a Peruvian influence from head Chef, Javier Uriate. His craft and dedication to each dish is apparent and they are served beautifully. Unfortunately, I was unable to try many of the dishes due to a cilantro allergy, but was impressed with the “Lomo Saltado” and the “Tempura Squash”. If you are not familiar with the concept of tapas, be sure to ask your server for the full rundown.

What We Tried

In short, we had a great girls night out at Ratio and it was wonderful to see a new space thriving during a year of such unknown. I love being able to share plates and enjoy crafty drinks with friends on a night out.

Overall Review (out of 5)

Food: 3.8| Atmosphere: 4.0| Cocktails: 4.2| Value: 3.3| Staff: 4.0

Pros: friendly staff, great cocktails, unique experience, tasty cuisine, patio
Improvements: table water was served warm, waitstaff was not aware of what dishes had cilantro so it was difficult to order
Would recommend for: girls night, date night, cocktail dates, small groups
Would not recommend for: children, men with large appetites

Nice! I want to go eventually, but wow, it’s really far away for a dinner! I really like what Chef Javier is doing in Columbia and hope the people of NE Columbia (Elgin at that point maybe?!!) love him back.
