They say knowledge is power, but in my opinion it means nothing unless you share it. There are a few things that have really stuck with me since I graduated college in 2014. Each of these pieces of information came to me at different times and some at just the right time I needed them. Maybe today one or many of these will resonate with you and what you need to hear. Take control of your career and follow your dreams.

“Fail Fast”

Failure is an inevitable part of growth. Sometimes things don’t work out and that’s okay. It is better to fail fast than to waste years of your life on something that is never going to work.

“There will always be more work to be done.”

I heard my boss say this on one of my first projects I ever worked on in my corporate career and really respected him for it. He stated this in regards to promoting a work life balance. No matter how hard you work, there will always be more to be done tomorrow. It’s important to find a stopping point each day, plan for the next, and turn off from work, because guess what, it will be there tomorrow.

“No one really knows what they’re doing.”

I can’t tell you the relief I felt the first time I heard this and I’ve heard multiple entrepreneurs say it since. Regardless to what part of your career you are in, everyone is trying to figure out what they’re doing. Sure there are people that are truly experts in their field but the majority of us are trying to figure it out one day at a time.

“If your audience is everyone, your audience is no one.”

I heard a blogger that I really respect, Julia Engel, say this in a podcast and it really resonated with me. Trying to please everyone or reach all audiences will always result in failure. You will never be able to please everyone. You can’t do it all. Find something you’re passionate about it, invest in it, and be the best at it.

“You are the only person that can be you.”

Whatever you have to offer your job, your relationships, your life, give it your all. You are the only one that can give what you have to offer. Find what you’re good at and what you love and pursue it with your whole heart. You’re the only one that can do that for you.
